During February next year, more than 5,000 delegates from the Federation of Independent School Associations member organizations will be gathering to celebrate a milestone on the British Columbia education scene.
FISA BC is turning 50 next year. With that, the independent school organization is already planning one of its biggest events to date to mark its golden anniversary.
This will be the first time that the five associations of FISA BC will come together for a convention that will feature world-renowned speakers, professional development sessions on technology, personalized learning and outstanding student presentations from across the province.
Happening at the Vancouver Convention Centre, professionals from the Catholic Independent Schools of British Columbia are planning to join the celebration to help mark the occasion.
Bev Pulyk, Chairperson for CISBC committee and the Superintendent for the Diocese of Victoria and Island Catholic Schools, said the massive assembly is an opportunity like no other for the member associations of FISA BC. “It’s a wonderful chance for all independent schools across the province to gather together,” she said.
CISBC is one of five associations of FISA BC, and one of the largest with 77 schools and nearly 22,000 students. Pulyk said roughly speaking, that’s more than 25 percent of the overall total FISA BC population. According to CISBC information, the organization works to provide religious and moral reference points to help students critically examine the culture around them and build a society enlightened by the values of the Gospel.
Pulyk said excitement is mounting surrounding the ever-growing FISA BC event next year, noting that many member associations are bowing out of having their own conference for 2016, to give delegates the chance to participate in the major milestone celebration.
The theme for the FISA BC anniversary event is Learning Together, Leading Forward. High profile speakers are booked and registered participants are getting excited to meet famous Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield, and noted author and speaker, Daniel Pink, among others.
“The calibre of speakers is exceptional,” Pulyk said. “There’s a real opportunity to hear top quality speakers and gurus that can benefit participants. I know many people are looking forward to attending.”
