Spring 2026 Board Meeting & 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) Highlights

Board Changes

The Board recognized the contributions of Mark Mullan, Chair of the Ottawa Catholic School Board, who is leaving the Board and has served as the OCSTA representative since 2022.

Glenn Sheculski, Trustee with the Northeastern Catholic District School Board representing the Timmins and Moosonee districts, has been appointed as the new OCSTA representative.

Finances

2027 CCSTA Operating Budget

The resolution regarding the 2027 CCSTA Operating Budget was referred to the CCSTA Finance Committee for further review.  A revised budget will be brought forward to the membership at a Special General Meeting (SGM) to be held prior to December 30, 2026.

Audited Financial Statements

The 2025 operating budget included $18,002 drawdown from reserves to achieve a balanced budget. The 2025 audit report, however, identified an excess of revenue over expenses in the amount of $55,559.

The Association’s 2025 year-end financial results are better than the budgeted deficit, primarily because of the $33,060 surplus from the Halifax Conference and investment interest revenue that exceeded budget by $31,259.

Communications

National Member Listening Survey

A central focus of the Committee was the launch and promotion of CCSTA’s National Member Listening Survey, open from May 14 to June 15, 2026.

This initiative represents an important step in CCSTA’s ongoing commitment to listening, discernment, and unity across the national Catholic education community. Communications efforts included:

●   Pre-launch awareness and email list growth strategy

●   Dedicated email campaign (before, during, closing reminder and thank you sequence)

●   Website integration and visibility

●   In-person engagement planning for AGM participation

A summary report will be presented in October 2026.

Email Communications & List Growth

Email continues to grow into a strong and reliable communication channel for CCSTA.

●   The transition to separate English and French mailing lists has improved clarity, targeting, and user experience.

●   Open rates remain strong, indicating healthy engagement and growing interest in CCSTA communications.

●   List growth strategies tied to key initiatives (including the national survey) are underway.

●   Ongoing attention is being given to list health, segmentation, and deliverability, ensuring CCSTA emails are reaching the right audiences effectively.

Resolutions & Political Affairs

The membership passed a motion regarding research related to the reestablishment of denominational separate schools across Canada.

Toonies For Tuition – Supporting Catholic Education Across Canada

Students in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario are blessed to benefit from publicly funded Catholic education. In many other parts of Canada, however, families make significant financial sacrifices to ensure their children can access a faith-based education, often paying tuition costs themselves.

Over the past year, schools and boards across the country once again demonstrated their commitment to Catholic education through the Toonies for Tuition initiative. Their generosity helps make Catholic education more accessible to families in regions where public funding is limited or unavailable.

The CCSTA Endowment Fund Committee extends its sincere gratitude to all schools, boards, students, staff, trustees, and supporters who contributed to this year’s campaign and helped share the gift of Catholic education across Canada.

2026-2027 Funding Highlights:

  • Funding requested: $543,866 (up from $383,338 in 2025-2026)
  • Available for distribution: $97,700 — (down from $197,000 in 2025-2026)
  • Assistance granted: 17% of all requests
  • Regions supported: Schools in British Columbia, Manitoba, and the Atlantic provinces

2025-2026 Toonies for Tuition Trophy Challenge Winners

Each year, CCSTA presents awards to the school board/division and province with the highest per-capita fundraising totals. Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

  • School Board/Division: Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division (SK)
  • Province: Saskatchewan

Thanks to the incredible support of Catholic school communities nationwide, many students will have the opportunity to grow, learn, and live in Christ through a Catholic education.  Let us continue to lift each other up and ensure that Catholic education remains accessible to all families—regardless of geography or financial circumstance.
