Board Retreat
The Board of Directors and staff of CCSTA participated in a facilitated retreat, providing an opportunity to reflect on several key areas, including the results of the Member Listening Survey, the 2027 Vision to Action Plan, and the organization’s current financial realities.
The Board is grateful to Sr. Mary Jo Radey of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie and Executive Director Rose Burton for their guidance and leadership, as we discerned these important topics and considered the path forward for CCSTA.
2026 CCSTA Listening Survey
CCSTA is grateful to all those who responded to our Listening Survey. The survey results highlighted opportunities for CCSTA and provided valuable insight into potential future directions.
The findings aligned closely with CCSTA’s current priorities, including advocacy, resource sharing, the protection of Catholic education, and the promotion of Catholic identity. The feedback reinforced CCSTA’s ongoing work and affirmed that its fundamental mission remains unchanged.
The Board is planning to update members through a webinar to be hosted within the next several months. The webinar will provide an opportunity to share the survey findings and discuss next steps, with time also set aside for questions and answers.
AGM / Conference
The Board of Directors received the final budget report from the 2026 Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Winnipeg, MB. The results of the participant evaluation survey indicate that the conference was extremely successful in every aspect. The CCSTA Board once again expresses its sincere gratitude to Manitoba Catholic Schools for its warm hospitality and leadership in making the 2026 event a memorable one for attendees.
The Board made the difficult decision to offer the 2027 Conference and AGM virtually, rather than in person in Vancouver. This decision was made after much deliberation and was based on uncertainties around attendance, caused largely by the challenging financial circumstances facing Catholic school boards across Canada. The virtual event is scheduled to occur on Friday, June 4, 2027. More information will be forthcoming as plans are finalized.
CCSTA appreciates both the hard work of the Vancouver planning committee and everyone’s understanding. We look forward to connecting with everyone virtually in 2027.
Special General Meeting (SGM)
CCSTA will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) on December 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. EST. The agenda will include the 2027 operating budget and a proposed revision to the by-law. An agenda package will be circulated no fewer than 21 days in advance of the meeting. Registration information for the SGM will be available in the coming weeks.
Board Member Updates
CCSTA is pleased to welcome Glenn Sheculski to the Board of Directors. With decades of leadership in and service to Catholic education—including experience as a Director of Education, trustee, and Board Chair in Ontario—Glenn brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to faith-based education and community service to the CCSTA Board.
The Board also bid a fond farewell to two Board members: Melinda Chartrand, representing the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (AFOCSC), and Bruno Tuchscherer, representing the Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association. We thank Melinda and Bruno for their faithful service and wish God’s abundant blessings upon them, as they continue to serve Catholic education in their respective communities.
