At our 2023 AGM, held in Saskatoon, SK, the membership unanimously passed two resolutions urging CCSTA to petition the Government of Canada to:

fund a National Nutrition Program and
mandate age verification laws and to regulate the algorithms technology companies use to amplify and recommend harmful online media to students under the age of 18.

A letter was sent on June 26, 2025, to selected federal ministers regarding CCSTA’s call for the Government of Canada to promote and fund a ‘Canada First’ procurement approach to support Canadian industries, workers, and communities. The letter emphasized the importance of prioritizing Canadian goods and services in public sector purchasing to foster economic growth, protect domestic industries, and support students’ learning about responsible consumption.

An additional letter was sent on June 26, 2025, to selected federal ministers regarding CCSTA’s call for the Government of Canada to provide funding for alternative Indigenous language teacher certification processes. In the letter, CCSTA stressed the urgency of preserving Indigenous languages and urged recognition of knowledge keepers and elders as qualified educators, given the significant challenges in recruiting and retaining fluent Indigenous language teachers.

The Goal of CCSTA’s Government Relations Committee is to enhance strategic government relationships

Plan of Action:

Have president and executive director attend parliamentary prayer breakfasts
Share information on government relations with provincial associations
Host meetings between the executive director and provincial associations at least once per year
Engage in activities relation to advocacy (E.G., create mailouts, participate in meetings with MPS)
Encourage all trustees to engage with their members of parliament (MPs)
Encourage all members of our CCSTA Board of Directors to annually develop a local engagement strategy.
