As part of our mandate, CCSTA works to ensure Catholic education is available to every Canadian family. As well, we honour those who work to promote and spread the message of Catholic education. We do this through the Endowment Fund, Toonies for Tuition Fundraising Campaign and the annual Higgins Award.
Tuition Assistance Program
In 2004, the idea of creating a Charitable Foundation for the Association was raised by then CCSTA President Bernakevitch. After two years of discussion and design, followed by applying for governmental approval, the CCSTA Charitable Foundation became a reality in 2006. The main purpose of this charitable foundation was to assist students in paying their tuition to attend Catholic schools in those provinces in Canada with limited or no public funding.
Toonies for Tuition
Toonies for Tuition, the official campaign for the CCSTA Endowment Fund, is asking for your help in fundraising for this worthwhile initiative. Every year, there are more requests than funds available, so help us turn that around. Consider joining our campaign to share the gift of Catholic education.
DonateHiggins Award
In memory of a distinguished Canadian jurist and Catholic School Trustee, the Honourable Justice James Higgins (1913-1974) of St. John’s, Newfoundland, the Board of Directors of CCSTA annually presents an award to a person or group that has made an outstanding contribution to Catholic education in Canada. The Justice James Higgins Award is the highest honour provided by CCSTA. It reflects recognition of an exceptional contribution to Catholic education in this country.
