CCSTA welcomes 2012 with a busy agenda!
From committee meetings to political outreach, we have already set out our schedule for much of the year. We look forward to attending a number of events whereby we can spread the message of Catholic education in Canada while also listening to others share their own experiences.
For our CCSTA committee meetings and Board of Directors’ winter meeting, we will host teleconferences. Since our committee members live across the country, we save costs while ensuring we remain connected. The Conventions and Finance Committee will host its teleconference on Jan. 16. A week later, the Resolutions and Political Affairs Committee convene on Jan. 24 and the Education, News and Information Committee will host its teleconference meeting Jan. 26.
On Feb. 16, the Board of Directors meet via teleconference for its winter meeting. The board will review any upcoming events and items of interest related to CCSTA’s mission and vision. Our winter meeting allows us to forecast what’s to come in the year ahead.
Following CCSTA Executive Director John Stunt’s attendance at the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops forum last fall, CCSTA expects to meet with the CCCB in the New Year to discuss matters of mutual interest, including Catholic schools’ role in the New Evangelization.
When Parliament resumes in February, CCSTA will begin a series of weekly mail-outs to MPs and Senators regarding the contribution made to Canada by Catholic education. As well, we will meet up with political representatives and affiliates in the spring at the National Leadership Dinner and Prayer Breakfast in May. More than 800 MPs, Senators and guests attend this Christian event in Ottawa.
“This is a solid opportunity to meet and network with our MPs, Senators and their staff to talk about how Catholic education plays an important role in Canada,” says Mr. Stunt. “It’s a well-attended event and we always look forward to it.”
CCSTA will also participate in the Catholic Organization for Life and Family seminar in Ottawa this March. The following month, the National Catholic Educational Association in the United States invites CCSTA to its annual NCEA Convention. This year it will take place in Boston and CCSTA attends the NCEA Awards Banquet as the guest of NCEA.
“The NCEA convention gives us a glimpse of the Catholic education scenarios, successes and challenges taking place across the United States,” explains Mr. Stunt. “Attending the annual convention gives us new ideas and a different perspective.”
As always, CCSTA looks forward to hosting its annual AGM/Convention. This year, Sudbury will once again take the hosting reins, welcoming convention attendees and their families to the Nickel City from June 7-9, 2012. As we approach the AGM, we’ll release more information regarding its theme, keynote speakers and schedule. We look forward to seeing you there!
