Calgary will open its doors to allow its Catholic community to gather for a faith-filled educational and spiritual experience.
Hosted together by the Alberta Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association, the 2012 Catholic Conference, Open Wide the Doors…Welcome the New Evangelization, will be held on March 9-10, 2012 in Calgary, Alberta.
This Catholic Conference will celebrate the Second Vatican Council’s 50 years and will bring together speakers from across the province to explore fascinating topics ranging from marriage, faith and culture to pastoral and palliative care and inter-church relationships.
The conference welcomes keynote speakers, Steve Angrisano and the Most Reverend Gerard Pettipas, who both bring a wealth of experience and energy to the stage.
Steve’s unique blend of prayer, song, story and humorous audience interaction has been featured at major national and international events, including World Youth Days and many Los Angeles Religious Education Congresses.
Archbishop Pettipas brings a spiritual, practical and interactive approach to everyday Catholicism. His unassuming approach energizes the audience and gently calls them into a deeper relationship with Christ.
The ROOTS program will run concurrently with the Catholic Conference and is a specific program designed to explore issues surrounding the Catholic faith and parenting.
The goals of the program are to affirm the role of parents as the primary educators of their children; explore opportunities for Catholic school councils to enhance the Catholic identity of their schools; encourage each other to live out and celebrate our faith; work together in service to the Catholic school community; and share in the mission and vision of Catholic education.
CCSTA commends ACSTA for working with its partners and engaging its Catholic community through the 2012 Catholic Conference. This conference brings together adults from across Alberta and the Northwest Territories and would be an excellent learning and spiritual opportunity for parents, educators and trustees.
