Constance Oranu knows first-hand the difference that receiving Endowment funding can make.
Her three children are enrolled in Catholic schools in Manitoba, with the tuition for just two of them totalling $5,500. Even though that amount seems daunting, Constance said it is fundamentally important to her to keep her family in a Catholic school environment.
“My reason for keeping my children in the Catholic schools is because I want them to remain in the faith and continue in their faith, morals, discipline, good education and… because they have always attended the Catholic school,” she said.
Her determination paid off when her family got a helping hand for this year. She received funding from the CCSTA Endowment Fund, which assists students in Catholic schools with tuition costs in provinces with limited or no public funding.
This went a long way towards her achieving the goal of keeping her children enrolled at their schools. “The Endowment funding has made a significant impact in covering tuition expenses for my family and I am very appreciative about this,” Constance said.
CCSTA established the fund seven years ago and has since distributed more than $107,000 in tuition assistance. Need for the fund is more apparent as time passes, as a steady stream of letters of request are submitted every year. About $37,000 was raised for the fund this year and allocated for the 2012-13 school year.
The Toonies for Tuition program is one of the key ways of generating dollars for the Endowment Fund. The initiative sees schools, boards, parishes and organizations hold special days for fundraising – a toonie at a time.
“For those who contribute to the Toonies for Tuition campaign, we say a big thank you for putting a smile on our faces and for reaching out to so many people that need this funding,” Constance said. “Keep doing the good work of faith; may God sustain your organization, your dreams and your goals.”
